Needs Assessment for Youth

Partners conducted a structured needs assessment to understand young participants and their families.

To ensure that every activity in STEMpower Through Art responds to real needs, all partners carried out a structured Needs Assessment involving young participants, families and educators. Through questionnaires, interviews and discussions, the consortium gathered information on learning profiles, accessibility requirements, personal interests, communication preferences, daily challenges and family expectations.

The results of the Needs Assessment played a key role in shaping the project’s approach. They guided the design of inclusive STEM+Arts workshops, the creation of visual supports and step-by-step materials, the planning of mentor assistance, and the development of a safe and supportive learning environment. By listening to youth and families from the very beginning, the project ensures that each participant can engage confidently and meaningfully in all activities.

A total of 73 participants from Greece, Hungary and Türkiye — including young people, educators, parents/guardians and youth workers — contributed through an online questionnaire. The assessment explored learning preferences, accessibility requirements, interests, potential barriers to participation and the type of support needed for a safe and inclusive learning environment.

The results confirmed the importance of creative, hands-on and flexible STEM & Arts activities, supported by clear instructions, mentor guidance and accessible learning spaces. These findings directly informed the design of the project’s workshops, tools and methodologies.
